Day 75 – Leadership Requires Humility

Reading: 1 Samuel 10–12

Big Picture

1 Samuel 10–12 marks a major turning point for Israel as the nation officially transitions into monarchy.

In chapter 10, Saul is anointed by Samuel as Israel’s first king. At first, Saul appears hesitant and humble. When the time comes for him to be publicly presented as king, he is found hiding among the baggage. The moment reveals the tension within Saul—he has been chosen by God, yet he feels unprepared for the responsibility.

Chapter 11 shows Saul’s early success. When a foreign army threatens the people of Jabesh-Gilead, Saul leads Israel into battle and delivers them. The victory unites the nation, and the people reaffirm Saul as king.

Then in chapter 12 Samuel gives a farewell address to the people.

Samuel reminds Israel that although they asked for a king, God remains their true ruler. He recounts God’s faithfulness throughout their history and calls the people to remain faithful moving forward.

Samuel summarizes the moment clearly:

“If you fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully… it will be well with you.”

The monarchy has begun, but Israel’s future still depends on their relationship with God.

The Manly Training Lens

Grace reminds us that leadership begins with humility before God.

Saul’s early story shows the tension many leaders experience. Being placed in a position of influence does not automatically mean someone feels ready for it. Saul begins with a level of humility, recognizing the weight of the role he has been given.

Samuel’s speech reinforces an even deeper truth: no human leader replaces God’s authority. Kings may govern, but the Lord remains the true ruler of His people.

When leaders forget this, trouble begins.

Here Christ is revealed as the perfect King whose leadership remains fully aligned with the Father. Unlike human kings who rise and fall, Christ reigns with complete righteousness and faithfulness.

God wants His people to know Him as the true authority over every leader and every system.

Leadership application becomes clear:

Healthy leadership begins with reverence for God’s authority.

Final Thought

Israel gained a king, but Samuel reminded them that their true hope remained in God.

Human leadership always carries limitations.

Christ stands as the King who leads with perfect justice, humility, and grace.

Knowing Him allows us to lead, serve, and live with the confidence that God remains in control of every season.

True strength in leadership begins with humility before Him.
