Day 112 – What You Give Reveals What You Trust

Reading: 1 Chronicles 29; 2 Chronicles 1–2

Big Picture

1 Chronicles 29 captures the closing moment of David’s leadership.

He gathers the people and gives generously toward the building of the temple. Not out of obligation, but out of devotion. The leaders follow, and the people respond with willing hearts.

David makes something clear:

Everything they have already belongs to God.

This is not loss—it is alignment.

Then in 2 Chronicles 1, Solomon steps into leadership. When God appears to him and invites him to ask for anything, Solomon asks for wisdom.

Not power.

Not wealth.

Wisdom to lead well.

God responds by giving him wisdom—and also what he did not ask for.

In chapter 2, Solomon begins the work of building the temple, continuing what David prepared.

The Manly Training Lens

Grace reminds us that what we give and what we ask for both reveal what we trust.

David gives freely because he understands something deeply:

Nothing he has is truly his to hold onto.

This is a key moment of formation.

Giving is not about loss.

It is about alignment.

It reveals trust.

Then Solomon’s response shows another side of trust.

When given the opportunity to ask for anything, he chooses wisdom.

This is clarity.

This is maturity.

What we prioritize reveals what we value.

Here Christ is revealed as the ultimate gift and the source of all wisdom. Jesus is both what God gives and the One through whom we receive understanding. In Him, we see complete trust in the Father and perfect alignment with His will.

God wants His people to know Him as both provider and guide—so that what we give and what we seek come from trust, not fear.

Leadership application becomes clear:

What you hold loosely and what you pursue intentionally reveal your alignment.

Reflection Question

What do your giving and your priorities reveal about what you trust most?

Final Thought

David gave because he trusted.

Solomon asked for wisdom because he understood what mattered.

Both moments reveal alignment with God.

Christ is both the greatest gift and the source of true wisdom.

Knowing Him reshapes what we hold onto—and what we pursue.

What you give and what you seek will always reveal what you trust.
