Reading: 2 Kings 25, 1 Chronicles 1–2
Big Picture
2 Kings 25 records one of the most difficult moments in Israel’s history.
Jerusalem falls. The temple is destroyed. The people are taken into exile.
Everything that once represented stability, identity, and structure is broken.
It feels like an ending.
But then 1 Chronicles 1–2 begins—and instead of focusing on destruction, it starts with genealogy.
Names. Generations. Lineage.
From Adam onward, the story continues.
This is not random.
It is intentional.
What looks like an ending in 2 Kings is followed by a reminder in Chronicles:
The story is still moving forward.
The Manly Training Lens
Grace reminds us that even when everything falls apart, God’s purpose continues.
2 Kings 25 feels final.
Loss. Collapse. Consequence.
But 1 Chronicles shifts the perspective.
Instead of focusing on what was lost, it focuses on what continues.
This is a critical moment of formation.
When something ends in our lives, it often feels like everything has stopped.
But God does not work in isolated moments.
He works across generations, across time, across circumstances.
The genealogies remind us of something deeper:
God is not just working in events—He is working in continuity.
Even in exile, even after loss, the line continues.
The story is not over.
Here Christ is revealed as the fulfillment of that line. Every name, every generation ultimately points forward to Him. Jesus is the continuation and completion of what God has been building from the beginning.
God wants His people to know Him as the God of continuity—not just present in moments of strength, but present through every season, including loss.
Leadership application becomes clear:
What feels like an ending may actually be part of a longer story God is still writing.
Reflection Question
Are you viewing your current situation as the end of something—or as part of what God is still continuing?
Final Thought
Jerusalem fell, and everything seemed lost.
But the story did not stop.
The genealogies remind us that God’s work continues beyond what we can see in the moment.
Christ stands as the fulfillment of that ongoing story.
Knowing Him allows us to trust that even in seasons of loss, God is still moving forward.
This is not the end.
It is part of something larger.
