Finding Strength When Life Hits Hard

From the Archives — Reworked for Today

Life doesn’t wait for us to get ready.
Challenges show up unannounced — a job setback, a strained relationship, a season of waiting that feels endless. But faith was never meant for easy days. It’s forged in the fire of hard ones.

When I first wrote this years ago, I called it “Faith in the Trenches.” The message hasn’t aged a day. In fact, it’s even more relevant now. The world around us moves faster, demands louder, and patience thinner — yet the truth remains: real strength isn’t proven in comfort, but in crisis.

When Everything Shakes

We all face moments when prayer feels unanswered, when we’ve done everything right and it still falls apart. Those are the trenches — the places where you wonder if God still sees you.

But faith isn’t about escaping those moments. It’s about standing firm inside them.
You can’t always choose your circumstances, but you can choose your response.
You can choose calm over panic.
Integrity over impulse.
Faith over fear.

That’s the quiet strength that changes lives — the kind that doesn’t shout, but endures.

A Different Kind of Strength

The strongest people I’ve ever met weren’t always the loudest or most successful. They were the ones who stayed steady when no one else did.
The mom who kept praying through tears.
The father who worked two jobs and still found time to sit with his son.
The young person who stood firm in their convictions when everyone else bowed to pressure.

This is the kind of strength that grows when we stop trying to control everything and start trusting God with the outcome.

A Truth Worth Holding Onto

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
— 1 Corinthians 16:13

Strength isn’t the absence of pain — it’s the presence of purpose.
It’s what happens when you show up one more day, trust one more time, forgive one more person, and believe one more promise.

When life hits hard, you don’t have to hit back harder. You just have to stand taller.

Your Challenge for This Week

Take one area of your life that feels out of control — work, family, finances, or your own emotions — and surrender it.
Ask God to help you focus on what you can control: your attitude, your choices, your faith.
Leave the rest in His hands.

Because the same God who walks with you in the trenches will lead you out of them.
