I Just Want a Loving Family – Adoption event attracts families seeking to add to family

I Just Want a Loving Family – Adoption event attracts families seeking to add to family. Amazing stories during National Adoption Month.

Mike and Lisa Youngblood have no children. For now.

That could change soon — in a big way.

“We want to adopt a sibling group of up to five,” Mike Youngblood said Saturday, at an adoption meet event at Children’s Service Center in Wilkes-Barre.

The event at the agency’s South Franklin Street headquarters attracted prospective parents in search of children to adopt, children looking to join a new family and representatives of adoption-related social service groups, according to Rebecca Nallon, program supervisor for Children’s Service Center.

A New Family

The Youngbloods have spent the past six months preparing to add to their family. They expanded their Hanover Twp. home. They’ve gone through background checks, home inspections and training. And they say they are ready.

Once they form a new family, one of the first trips they take will be to a certain Florida attraction.

A previous visit to Disney World as an adult couple without kids hit home how much they wanted to share their love of the Magic Kingdom, Mike said.

“We realized there are children who might never get to experience Mickey Mouse,” Mike said.

He urged people who have considered adopting or fostering a child to pursue their dream.

Joseph, 14, said all he wants is a positive change from the neglect he knew in the past.

“I would just like compassion and caring from the family,” he said. “I just want a loving family.”

Anyone who is interested in adopting a child, or who would like more information, is encouraged to call Children’s Service Center at 570-825-6425, ext. 532.

Would You Do What These Families Did?
