God Wants You to Love the Orphans of the World

The proclamation of National Adoption Month is a special time to focus extreme
awareness on adoption, a profound concern, which oftentimes gets lost in the cluttered
conversation in the world. This crucial and vital act of love should resonate with all
believers who love the Creator and King of the Universe, who made all of mankind in
His image (Gen. 1:26).

Assuredly, God Almighty is all love, and He commands us to
love one another and take care and provide for people who are in need, especially
those who are in need of love (1 John 3). In fact, the Holy Bible teaches there are three
great gifts, which are faith, hope, and love, and it declares the greatest of all is love (1
Cor. 13:13). Most certainly, love encompasses adoption, because it is one of the most
compassionate, selfless, caring, and loving acts in the world.

James 1:27, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”

In the Word of God, the greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all of your heart,
with all of your soul, and with all of your mind, and the second is to love your neighbor
like yourself (Deut. 6:5, Matt. 22:37-39). Jesus, who is Faithful and True, perfectly lived
as these commandments require, thus illuminating Himself as the premier example for
mankind to follow, which includes loving orphans (Matt. 5:48, 1 John 2:6).

Matthew 18:10,14, “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.”

On a personal level, all people have friends or acquaintances who have been
tremendously blessed by the loving act of adoption. The special bond that is created
throughout the process of adoption, and thereafter, is unlike any other, because of the
unique cohesiveness that last for a lifetime. Assuredly, the exuberant joy that permeates
for both the family and the person being adopted is an amazing and heartfelt process to

On a spiritual level, all believers are able to relate and identify with the concept of
adoption, because God Almighty, through His only begotten Son, Jesus, adopts all
people into His kingdom who call upon His holy name (John 3:16). Make no mistake, all
believers were once orphans in this world before God’s Holy Spirit came upon them to
receive their salvation through Jesus, who leads the way to our heavenly Father (John

As we ponder upon this incredible and awesome revelation, it should prompt us
to understand the great love, peace, comfort, and joy a child experiences when they too
are adopted by a person or a family.

2 Corinthians 6:18, “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty.”

Psalm 82:3, “Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy.”

If the Lord God protects orphans as His sons and daughters, should not we love,
support, help, and adopt them, as well? Are we not commanded to uphold the
Scriptures and defend these precious lambs in whatever way God leads us to? The
resounding answer is absolutely yes. The Word of God also proclaims how our Father
in heaven looks upon orphans, and it also declares with great clarity how believers
should treat orphans.

Deuteronomy 10:18, “He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.”

Psalms 68:5-6, “A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation.”

Matthew 19:14, “But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.”

God Wants Your to Love the Orphans of the World!

The Lord commands us to love the little children of the world, including orphans,
providing them with love and support, which includes adoption, if you are led to by the
blessed Holy Spirit. According to the U.S. Government and UNICEF, 17.8 million
children worldwide have lost both parents, and 153 million children worldwide have lost
one parent or both. This is not only heartbreaking, but absolutely staggering to
comprehend, and it calls for a steadfast dedication and proclamation of adoption.

These little lambs are relying on mankind to help with this tremendously growing problem,
which will bring love, peace, comfort, and hope to them. Not only will it help the
adoptee, it will also reward the adopter in ways that cannot be expressed with words.

We can be certain that Jesus would encourage all believers to participate, encourage,
and support adoption, in one way or another, according to His will.

All in all, just like all people in the world, orphans are hoping for a home on this earth,
until they are called unto their forever home, which is the kingdom of heaven with their
Father. Most assuredly, it will be a great day when all believers, who were orphans in
this world, finally live in the Lord’s “forever home.” If the Lord God is calling you to adopt and be a part of this great need in our world, I hope you will prayerfully consider moving
forward with the next step He is leading you toward.

John 14:1-4, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and
receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” Amen, Amen, and Amen!
